Cheers Nug. It has been great jotting it down and re-living the trip and pics. Day 6 - Birdsville to Cordillo Downs We are woken early by a group of motor bikes leaving the caravan park. I am not a bike guy but was really surprised by the number of bikes we have seen on our travels and some going so...

Yep, that went like a bought one. The owner had only just picked it up and quiet cheaply as 'something was wrong with the engine.' Got home put fuel in it and hasn't looked back!! Day 5 - Birdsville to Birdsville Got up fairly early as today was the day we set out to conquer Little Red and Big Red. ...

Day 4 - Mungerannie to Birdsville We had breakfast with the flys, packed up camp and headed off to Birdsville. The Poole brothers in 'Grey Streak' won the award for first puncture of the trip and while changing their tyre noticed the rear passenger shocker mount was missing  They kept going ...

Day 3 - Maree to Mungerannie After a team photo at the start of the Birdsville Track we were underway on this iconic outback trail. I didn't know what to expect but it wasn't really all that bad apart from a few sections of bulldust that were well flagged and the lead car kept us informed of anythi...

Day 2 - Hawker to Maree We were underway by 7.30am and there were lots of dead 'roos on the side of the road and we had a very near miss with a live one! It was onto Blinman and then Parachilna before hitting the remnants of Farina, a once mighty Ghan railway town that is now desolate but being slo...

VEC - RATeX 2015 - Birdsville or Bust

I've posted this here as this is where the 2013 trip got moved to, so Mods feel free to move if required. The Volks Enthusiasts Club of SA held its 5th annual RATeX event (the name is a play on the old REDeX relaibilty trials) and this year we travelled just over 3,800kms to Birdsville and then thro...

Managed to do this on the weekend… let's just say it involved a bike, a roof rack and an underground carpark  Feel like a real dickhead, but came out pretty unscathed considering. Not unscathed enough though   I share your pain - had two mountain bikes on the roof rack on the splitt...

Indicator switch and housing for '67 kombi

As the heading says I am chasing a self cancelling indicator switch and housing for a '67 kombi. My bus is a German built, factory 12 volt so I don't know whether this makes it any different to earlier models??

I would like to get it this week if possible as I need to do the fix before Volksfest.

Do you know if they are the same for earlier and later models?

I may have something in the shed off a lowlight coupe. If you let me know if it would fit I will have a fossick around and see what I can find.

Love the shot on the one way road in the caravan park - could almost be a 1960's postcard.

Good to see the snail leading the way - was it the fastest bus or the best windbreak...

Just before Mount Ive Station is Lake Gairdner, where the salt lake racing is held. The area is very pristine, beautiful and peaceful – a contrast to what it must be like during speed week. Mt Ive Station was like an oasis with fuel a range of sleeping options, hot showers and a great camp kitchen i...

Day 7 – Coober Pedy to Mt Ive Station via Glendambo, Kingoonya and Lake Gairdner Today was to be another long day in the saddle with an early start and it didn’t get off to a great start with Keith Poole’s ‘Grey Streak’ blowing a welsh plug off the carbie before we hit the start line. However this ...

Day 6 – Oodnadatta to Coober Pedy Due to the recent rain the road to Coober Pedy was closed to two wheel drive vehicles, however our hosts again came to the rescue and lobbied the authorities on our behalf, informing them we were a well organised and resourced bunch who would be able to make the jo...

The next 12km stretch of track was by far the worst, it wasn’t even a track, just rocks and we were limited to 20km/h so it was a long, hard, slow slog. We were behind the square when it spat out a rock the size of a small gas bottle behind it and it wasn’t long after that the contents of his bonnet...

Day 4 – Oodnadatta to Dalhousie Springs via Mount Dare Station Oodnadatta reckons it is the hottest, driest town in sud Australia and it might be at the height of summer but it received 2mm of rained overnight and the forecast was for between 1mm and 5mm more today.
