mk2 8v starts but wont run??

Post by kombibob »

Hi Guys,
Was driving the Mk2 today it was running fine but after grabbing a feed we jumped back in and found it would no longer run??

Engine turns over, starts, runs for a few seconds and dies, both pumps seem to be working and seems to be getting plenty of fuel to the rail.

We got it towed home tried it again and it was the same but after a few attempts i had it running and revving fine for a few minuets but it ended up stalling and going bad again. Even changed the fuel filter out in the rain tonight with no luck.

We have had a couple of weeks of wet weather so starting to think elec gremlins.
Any ides??

well came home to work on the bloody thing but in true Volkswagen fashion the problem seems to have gone??
Started and ran straight away so i took it for a run and it didnt miss a beat. but i did notice a dirty fuel kind of smell from the exhaust while idling just after the first start up.
So now thinking wasser in fuel??

Hey Bob, dunno if it's any help but mine leaks in behind the dash at the sides (from the scuttle panel??), only in extremely heavy rain though. I did notice some wa.ter near the fuse/ relay box. Might be worth checking out?

Now mines doing something along these lines. Fuel filter will be the next item on the list and charging the battery that is now dead.

He spike, I'm almost positive mine was due to all the wet weather, moisture in the computer. The electrics were playing up for a week after all the rain.
Has been fine ever since.
Fingers crossed.
