99 Problems !

Post by humphrey »

Due to not being able to sleep much of late, i find myself often on here & Gumtree in the very early hours of the morning...... so last thursday i spot an ad on Gumtree for a 99, T4 dual cab transporter its 2am, it wasnt there last night when i looked ...no pics, has rego, needs a clutch....up at Caves Beach towards Newie....& its very cheap....Hmmm....can i get away with buying another car....i already have one of these that i've been fixing up for work for a while now....

so I wait until a reasonable hour to call & have a chat with the owner, nice genuine old bloke, tells me about the motor & box being reco'd just under 2 yrs ago, & the crack in the front screen, needs a good clean, is kept in his shed etc.....this is sounding too good to be true. I make some calls to a local clutch guy to get a quote.....i might just get away with this one.....organise for a mates brother who lives up that way to go & have a look & call me....He happens to be heading sort of that way on the day so its no problem......this is all starting to fall into place......his phone call reveals that the old bloke is as straight up as he sounds, so a deposit is left & i continue working & wondering how to get this one past the keeper.......until she sends me a text & pic of a beetle for sale on the side of the road locally.....this is going to be easier than i thought.
The pics of the transporter come though later in the arvo...its pretty much how it was described....cool !
After work at dinner the conversation comes up about the weiss VW....so i blurt out that i bought a weiss vw today...the look i get is priceless, i defend by stating..."you sent me a pic "...she backs down...then i reveal the truth, theres that look again, until i explain the reasoning. all is good
:D
Saturday morning trip up the coast with car trailer & a mate to pic it up, the old bloke is such a good bloke, giving me some spares etc & then casually mentions that he'd owned it since new ! even drives it on to the car trailer for us....strapping it down confirms something i'd picked up in the first photo i was sent....It's a syncro 8)
